ME Farm BBQ at Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living

A barbeque was held on Wednesday the 20th March at the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living (MCSL) at Mount Annan.

Network partners engaged in a community day with job seekers and students

that undertakes work experience and horticultural studies on the farm.

It was a chance for clients from Red Cross Australia, MTC Work Solutions and MTC Training Solutions to come together and see the work being done.

The aim of the centre is to provide training to job seekers and students to gain future employment.

Student and job seeker David Thompson said, “I’m interested in farming because I love working in fresh air and in a peaceful environment. I’ve learnt some new skills and I hope to get a job in a nursery.”

Sean McCarthy from MTC Work Solutions sees the MCSL as a great place for job seekers such as David to gain experience. “It prepares them for jobs as it builds up their self esteem and confidence.”

Adrian Burton is another student who has learnt new skills. “I would like to do something in this area of work if I continue to make good progress.”

Farm Manager Andrew O’Carrigan was happy that the first event went well. “All of this would not be possible without the support of our funding body, Community Builders. It was a great day and I’m excited about the future of the centre. Fresh produce is on the horizon and this new produce is a pathway for people looking for work.” said Mr O’Carrigan.
